According to Entrepreneur.com, branding is “the marketing practice of creating a name, symbol or design that identifies and differentiates a product from other products.”
A brand is not a single entity but the entirety of the perceived corporate image. It includes a company’s logo and from the very logo, the company should be instantly recognizable. With the glimpse of the “bitten apple”, one can easily recognize the well-known computer manufacturer Apple Inc. It is also one of the easily recognizable logos in the world.
According to Investopedia, “A company’s brand identity is how that business wants to be perceived by consumers. The components of the brand (name, logo, tone, tagline, typeface) are created by the business to reflect the value the company is trying to bring to the market and to appeal to its customers.”
Your brand is what people think, feel and expect from your entire company, i.e. brand image. It comprises your brand identity and the visual aspects your brand uses. This includes your logo, which is just a single aspect but arguably the most important element of your brand identity with which people should recognize and connect with your brand.
According to Investopedia, “Logos are an example of intangible assets because they hold value, but not in a physical form. Logos have become an integral part of a company's identity, and are used heavily in the marketing of products and services. A well-recognized logo can increase a company's goodwill, and is trademarked for intellectual property protection.”
Hence, graphic designing plays an important role in branding and a good graphic designer always takes your brand identity and values into account. As Steve Jobs said, "To me, marketing is about values." The market is always dynamic, products change as per the customer needs; but values should not change. Understanding the values that shape a company help to inform the work they do is extremely important to design an identity with the intention to last.
Graphic design uses visual and textual content to communicate to the people. It comprises everything such as images, packaging, logos, words, fonts, print advertisements, etc. that allows you to create a profile for your brand.
Graphic designing has the power to transform businesses.
